Listed below are a few of our activities coming up this fall for children and/or families. Please contact our office at 634-4640 for more information.
1. Start Smart Football for children ages 4 - 6. Starts on October 17 and the Collinsville YMCA. Limited to 20 children.
2. S'Mores and Snores Family Campout at Jack Dalton Park on October 7 - 8. Enjoy games, cornhole, volleyball, making smores and camping out in the park. Families must bring their own camping equipment/tents and parks and rec will provide other items.
3. Pumpkin Carving Contest - Thursday, October 20 at 6:00pm at Jack Dalton Park. 4. Thanksgiving Crafts - November 23 - 3:00pm - 4:30pm - parks and recreation office

Piedmont Arts Preschool Program Schedule
As in the past, on each concert day we will offer a 9:30 am program and also one at 10:30 am. Each program is on a first come first served basis, and space is limited to approximately 100 at each performance. Listed below are the programs scheduled:

Wednesday, December 14, 2011:
The Sanville Elementary School children’s choir, under the direction of Cheryl Hobbs, will sing a selection of holiday tunes just for children! Lots of Christmas carols to sing along with!

The Richmond Ballet’s Minds in Motion Team XXL will perform a “mini performance” and demonstration of the 2011 Minds In Motion program “Dancing Makes Cent$”

Martinsville High School Jazz Band plays big band hits and jazz in the galleries, under the direction of Kevin Lewis!

Homeschool Wednesdays @ VMNH
We are pleased to announce that Homeschool Wednesdays will start on September 14 with Scientific Investigation. We are planning monthly programs on the second Wednesday of the month from 10 – 11:15 am. We have added enrichment sessions to build upon these programs and offer more in depth explorations. Please note that these sessions will be from 3 – 4 pm on select fourth Wednesdays. Age groups will be 6-9 years and 10-15 years. The fee is $5 per child.

80th Anniversary Celebration of the Child - Sept. 10th
In collaboration with Piedmont Arts Association, Southern Virginia Artisian Center and the Blue Ridge Public Library, the Charity League of Martinsville & Henry County is hosting a variety of activities for children on September 10, 2011. This event celebrates the arts, education and reading. Each event is free and open to the age groups noted below. Advance registration is required as there are a limited number of spaces available.
Reading Fun
What: Children, ages birth-6, participate in reading a book, Curious George Plants a Tree, with Ms. Janet Boucher and they will make a craft. Children will receive the book for free after the session. Snack will be provided.
Where: Blue Ridge Regional Library - Martinsville Branch, 310 East Church St., Martinsville, VA
When: 11:30 am - 12:30 pm
Number of spaces available: 30. Note: Parents are required to stay with their child(ren) during this activity.
Jewelry Making
What: Children, ages 6-12, will have a great time making a piece of jewelry with a local artist.
Where: Southern Virginia Artisian Center, 54 West Church St., Martinsville, VA

Making a Glass Sun Catcher
